Infrastructure Projects Update - October 19, 2021

Erving's autumn infrastructure projects are well underway. Some of these projects may temporarily disrupt vehicular or pedestrian traffic.  Your patience and understanding is appreciated.  Below are a sampling of projects which will directly affect residents this month.  Please know that the Town’s master project list includes over 80 tasks intended to be scheduled for the next 5 years and not all can be included here.

Arch Street & Route 2

The work to upgrade the force sewer main continues. Police details and flaggers will continue to be utilized to direct traffic as efficiently and safely as possible.

Papermill Road & Flagg Hill Road

A new sewer pipe on Papermill Road has been set in place and the project is paused while waiting for the pump station to arrive and to be installed.  Due to supply chain delays, this may have to wait until spring.  This project is grant funded through a MassWorks grant for $600,000.  The same contractor who is completing the sewer work on Papermill Road has been awarded the sewer replacement on Flagg Hill Road.  The project is anticipated to begin in early November.  The interconnection with the collection system on North Street may temporarily interrupt traffic.

Central Street, Park Street, Pratt Street, & Gunn Street

Sidewalk replacement began in mid-October and will continue into November. Trees will be planted as weather allows.

Church Street Bridge & Swamp Road Bridge

Due to safety concerns from MassDOT the Church Street bridge has been reduced to south-bound traffic only & a 3 ton weight limit for vehicles.  The commercial truck exclusion remains for Church Street and North Street. The Swamp Road bridge has been removed due to storm damage.

Poplar Mountain Road

The Town is working with Eversource, Weston & Sampson engineering, and residents to find an acceptable repair solution to the road which washed out in the July storms.

Park Street Park

The Highway Department continues to make improvements at the park into November. A new paved parking area and concrete pathways have been installed. New benches, a bench swing, and trees/bushes are to be installed this fall and in the spring.
