Erving Fire Department Receives S.A.F.E and Senior SAFE Grants

The Fire Department was successful in obtaining grant funds awarded from the Department of Fire Services for FY2019. The S.A.F.E. Student Awareness of Fire Education and Senior SAFE grants are award each year to assist departments in educating our elementary school children on fire safety topics. This grant has been awarded over the past 24 years, helping to reduce the number of children fatalities by 74%. The Senior SAFE program was established 4 years ago to expand the education power of the local communities to educate the older adults on fire prevention. Seniors are the most vulnerable of the population at risk of fire deaths. The Department will use these funds to continue forward with our education program in both the Erving Elementary School and the Senior & Community Center to bring fire prevention and awareness to these vulnerable groups of population. The Department was once again awarded this year $1,754.00 for the SAFE program and $2,100.00 for the Senior SAFE program.
