State of Emergency for the Town of Erving

Declared July 18, 2021

A state of emergency was declared on Sunday, July 18, 2021 in response to the significant rainfall and severe flooding of the Millers River, Keyup Brook, Jack’s Brook, other tributaries, and municipal roadways.  We have observed significant damage to private and public property as well as critical infrastructure.  As of now, the following traffic related closures exist:

  • North Street is closed to through traffic and can only be access by local residents.
  • Swamp Road Bridge is closed.
  • Kavanaugh Lane is closed
  • Poplar Mountain is limited to local traffic only.
  • Wheelock Street is limited to local traffic only.

Erving Police, Fire, Highway, and Wastewater crews have been out since early Sunday morning responding to calls and maintain infrastructure.  Crews are continuing to work to address emergency service requests currently.  The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has been notified and his been in town to document the damage.  The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has been out with crews working to address issues on Route 2, Route 63, Old State Road and Forest Street.

The Town will continue to work to address emergency issues.  Please call 911 to report any emergency issues.  For all other calls contact the appropriate Town Departments.  Please understand that we are experiencing a higher-than-normal call volume.  We will respond as soon as possible.  Please note that responses are being prioritized by severity.  We appreciate your patience.
