Solid Waste Update January 2022

trash

Erving’s trash sticker program began on Friday, August 6, 2021.  This program requires that every bag of residential trash have a Town sticker affixed to it in order to identify it as being generated by an Erving household.

Trash: The tonnage for trash & recycling is tracked for each delivery and the Town will continue to update an FY2022 to FY2021 comparison.  For the month of December 2020, the total trash tonnage was 38.90 tons.  In December 2021 it was 30.20 tons.  For the month of December, the trash tonnage was reduced by 8.7 tons or approximately 22%!  The Town continues to thank residents for successfully implementing the trash sticker program!

Recycling: Resident’s recycled 12.39 tons of material in December 2021.  For January 2022, Erving is getting paid $6.18 per ton for its recyclables so every ton diverted from the trash results in income to the town.  For a list of what can be recycled visit www.springfieldmrf.org.

The charts below are graphic representations comparing trash & recycling tonnage in Fiscal Years 2021 & 2022.  These charts will be updated regularly so residents can monitor the impacts of the trash sticker program.

Note: trash and recycling tonnage for September 2021 has not been verified at this time and has therefore not been included in the charts below.  Accuracy is important and residents should know that what was reported was far below a typical week and requires additional follow-up.
