Kids

The Library has a beautiful children’s room with plenty of materials to choose from for all ages.

We have a huge collection of board books and picture books located in record-album style book bins, perfect for kids to flip through and select picture books from. Comics, graphic novels, fiction/nonfiction chapter books, and kids DVDs are located in the wooden bookshelves spread throughout the room. We also have a play kitchen, a jumbo sized lego block table, a rocking chair, and science kits! Outside, we have a StoryWalk sponsored by the Community Network for Children (CNC) that changes weekly. The StoryWalk starts by the library entrance and travels through the gardens. Visit our Services page for a complete list of the services the Library has to offer, including museum pass borrowing and more.

Kids Programs

We have a wide variety of events and programs for your children to participate in at the library. Past events hosted by the library for children include: “Travelin' Shoes" Stories of Adventure with Rona Leventhal, and the Summer Reading Party. Stay up to date with us on our calendar or Facebook page for our latest event offerings!

Makerspace Room & Library of Things

The Makerspace is a place where people of all ages can work on personal or collaborative projects in science, technology, engineering, arts & crafts, mathematics and more. Children under age 11 must be accompanied by a guardian at all times in the Makerspace. Help yourself to the activities in the labelled blue baskets on the Makerspace shelves or the monthly activity!

Our Library of Things is a great complement to the Makerspace. We have board games, electronics, cake pans, musical instruments, science kits, garden tools, videogames and more. Some Library of Things items are limited to patrons over 18 years of age.

Information for Parents and Guardians

To visit the library independently, your child must be at least 11 years old and be able to follow our behavior policy. At age 11, they are welcome to use the Teen Room and Makerspace on their own. Children 8-10 years old may navigate the library unsupervised while their parent or guardian is still in the building. Children 7 years and younger must be accompanied at all times. Please note: our staff will not be charged with supervising your children, and we are happy to review any of our policies with you.

Children are encouraged to have their own library cards beginning in 1st grade, but will be issued a card at any age at the request of their guardian. Guardians and are financially responsible for fines or material replacement costs attributed to their child.
