At the Annual Town Meeting, held on May 11, 2022, the voters authorized the Town to proceed with the replacement of the Church Street Bridge with a project based on the final conceptual report prepared by Weston & Sampson Engineers.  The Select Board has been waiting for a response from Massachusetts Department of Transportation on whether the construction of the project could be funded through their process. This decision will be made in February 2023.

Final Conceptual Design

The bridge connects Church Street to North Street and in early 2021 the Select Board was informally notified by Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) that the bridge needed to be reduced to one-lane of traffic until it could be replaced, due to the structural state of it. The Select Board entered into a contract with Weston & Sampson engineers to evaluate traffic detours and preliminary feasibility designs if residents decide to replace the bridge. While this work is being done, the Select Board has not yet received the official letter from MassDOT explaining the status of the bridge.

Preliminary 30% Feasibility Designs

The Select Board hired engineers from Weston & Sampson to evaluate the status of the Church Street bridge today and to create preliminary designs and opinions of probable cost if the residents decide to replace it. ***Please note that these designs are for discussion and information purposes only and a decision on the replacement of the bridge has not yet been made***
