03/27/2020- Update Guidance Regarding COVID-19

As the response to COVID-19 has evolved on the federal and State levels, so has the response locally.  On Monday, March 23, 2020 the Board of Selectmen extended the closure of all non-essential offices until Tuesday, April 7, 2020 in accordance with Governor Baker’s executive order.

This means that all non-essential offices will remain closed to the public.  The following offices will remain closed:

  • Erving Senior & Community Center
  • Erving Public Library
  • Erving Recreation Office

These offices have regular updates regarding programs and services on the Town website (www.erving-ma.gov) and on their respective Facebook pages.

  • The Erving Town Hall will remain closed to the public.  Essential offices are functioning and staff are maintaining availability by phone and e-mail. The Town Hall drop box is still available for individuals to drop off paperwork.

Community members and staff are encouraged to follow updates from the Governor’s administration that are issued regularly:  Massachusetts COVID-19 Updates

Business Community

The social distancing and restrictions placed on our business community are presenting a significant hardship.  Resources are becoming available on the Federal, State, and regional levels.  As the Town becomes aware of these resources, we will post them online: Business Resources

The state has provided a list of what businesses can continue to operate during the State of Emergency while continuing to practice the necessary precautions.  Essential Services Designation Listing

  • If you do not believe that your specific function is listed you can ask for clarification by sending an email to:  covid19.biz@mass.gov
  • Further, if the function of your business is not listed above, but you believe that it is essential or it is an entity providing essential services or functions, you may request designation as an essential business.
  • Requests by businesses to be designated an essential function should only be made if they are NOT covered by the guidance.

Public Meetings

Public Meetings have been reduced and in compliance with Governor Baker’s executive orders, essential meetings have transitioned to a video/ audio conference format.  Participation information is posted for each meeting on the meeting posting and on the calendar event on the Town of Erving website (www.erving-ma.gov).  Staff will continue to be in contact with applicants requiring public hearings to discuss next steps.

Public Safety & Public Works:

  • All essential public safety and public works services remain operational, but these facilities are not open to the public. For public safety and medical emergencies contact 911.
  • Public works concerns can be communicated by calling (413) 423-3500 and leaving a message.  Curbside collection of solid waste will occur as normally scheduled.

Again, these actions will remain in place until Tuesday, April 7, 2020.  Additional guidance will be issued on or before April 6, 2020

Erving Elementary School:

Additionally, in accordance with Governor Baker’s orders, the Erving Union 28 School District has closed Erving Elementary School.  Parents and caregivers should refer to the communications being issued by Superintendent Culkeen and Principal Candito for further guidance.
